Are you living in a house that is too big for your needs? If so, you can downsize – and we can help.
Moving to a smaller home could improve your way of life. Living in a home too large for you not only takes more time to clean and maintain, but it also costs a lot more to run.
Downsizing could also help a family in need because there is a national shortage of family accommodation. Many families are living in temporary accommodation because suitable housing is in such short supply. Also, as a housing association, we are committed to making the best use of our properties.
Downsizing from a three-bedroom house to a one-bed flat could save you £30 per week on your combined bill for rent, gas, electricity and water rates. That’s a saving of £1,140 for the year.
It’s also important to remember that anyone classed as working age in April 2013 who is under-occupying their home, will have to pay for the extra bedrooms that are not needed.
The Department of Work and Pensions has set out the criteria for each household as follows:
• One bedroom for each person or couple
• One bedroom for two children of mixed sex under nine
• One bedroom for two children of same sex until one reaches 16
